Every team has its own chat. Messages reach everyone instantly, no refreshing needed. Playing for more than one team? Just switch teams and the chat switches with you.
In youth teams, parents read and write along: their name is marked as “Guardian of …” in the chat, so everyone knows who's talking.

Photos, videos & files

Reply to a specific message – the quote sits right above it. Use @name to address someone directly: they get a push of their own saying “… mentioned you”.

Edit & delete
Typo? You can edit or delete your own messages for 15 minutes. As a manager you can remove inappropriate messages in your team at any time.

New messages arrive as a push with sender and preview. Too busy? Mute a team's chat with one tap on the bell – you'll still get events and reminders.

Who can read the team chat?
All members of the team – and, in youth teams, the parents who represent their children in Startelf. Photos, videos and files are only delivered via links that expire after a short time.
Can I message teammates directly?
Yes. Since version 3.0 you can message teammates directly or create your own group chats – always with people from your team. The team chat sits on top of the chat list, your conversations below. You can mute individual chats and block or report people.
What files can I share in the chat?
Photos (JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, HEIC), videos (e.g. MP4, MOV) plus PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ZIP files – up to 100 MB each. Videos are automatically shrunk to save space.
Can I edit or delete messages?
Yes, you can edit or delete your own messages for up to 15 minutes after sending. Edited messages are marked as “edited”. Managers can delete messages in their team at any time.
Can I mute the team chat?
Yes, per team via the bell at the top of the chat. You then won't get push notifications for that chat and it won't count towards the badge on the app icon. Event notifications stay on.
Will I be notified when someone mentions me?
Yes. Anyone mentioning you with @name triggers a push of its own showing who mentioned you. In the chat, your mention is highlighted.
Can the team chat replace our WhatsApp group?
For everything team-related, it can: the chat lives in the same team as fixtures, availability and line-ups, new players are added automatically when they join, and nobody has to share their phone number.
How much does Startelf cost?
Startelf is free for players. You manage the team with the Manager subscription – one subscription for the whole team, from €4.99 a month or €49.99 a year, first month is free, cancel anytime.
